types of compressors and their applications
What is Compressor and its types?
Today we will know what is compressor, how it works, as well as the names of compressor parts and what are their uses.
What is Compressor
The compressor is such a machine that you get to see in all cooling devices. Such as- a fridge, air conditioner, water cooler, etc. Apart from this, you must have also seen the use of compressors to fill the air in many places.
If we look at the definition of a Compressor, states that Compressor is a device that converts mechanical energy into pressure energy and gives it to us. With the help of a compressor, we can use the air spread in our environment anywhere with high pressure.
Uses of Compressor
The compressor first sucks the air out of our atmosphere. After this, by compressing this air, which means with pressure, it sends it to the compressor tank. And later we use the compressed air kept in the air tank as per our need.
First of all 3 main pipelines are connected in the compressor.
- Suction Line
- Discharge Line
Suction Pipe Line: This line is used to take the outside air inside the compressor. The suction line is always slightly larger than the discharge line. This pipeline sends the atmosphere's AIR inside the piston.
Discharge Line: The work of the discharge pipeline is to throw out the gas that comes in through the suction pipeline. The discharge line is located inside the gas cylinder. This is a very essential pipeline, without it, the gas cannot go out of the air compressor. For this, there is a separate part in the cylinder. Gas comes in from the piston and then goes out.
Charging Line: The function of this line is to charge the compressor, hence it is called a charging line.
How to work the Compressor
Inside the compressor is a cylinder, inside which there is a suction and discharge line. There is also a piston inside the compressor which keeps moving up and down.
The compressor first draws the gas from the suction pipeline and sends it to the cylinder. The gas moves up due to the pressure of the piston. After this, when the piston goes back down, there is a return pressure on the gas, and the air comes out of the discharge pipeline.
The discharge line and suction pipeline are installed inside the cylinder itself. On both these lines there is 1-1 leaf inside. In this, when the part leaf of the suction pipeline is open towards the top, then the leaf of the discharge line is open towards the bottom. This is all due to the pressure of the piston.
Compressor parts name & function
The compressor consists of 5 main parts.
Air Filter
2. Discharge Pipe Line
3. Suction Pipe Line
4. Piston
5. Cylinder
Air Filter (Air Filter): The work of filtering the gas that comes into the compressor is done by the air filter. Air Filter Suction is installed in the pipeline.
This is very important to extend the life of the compressor. In any compressor, you get to see the air filter inside both pipelines.
Discharge Pipe Line: It is used to release the gas which has come inside the cylinder. Which comes in the discharge line part of the gas cylinder.
Suction Pipe Line: It is used to bring the gas inside the compressor. This line is on the other side of the cylinder, from there it brings the gas in and then sends it to the piston. Without the suction line, the gas cannot come in.
Piston: The piston is used to move the gas from the section line part to the discharge line part. Due to the pressure of the piston, the gas changes places. The piston is the main part of the compressor, so the piston is also called the heart of the compressor.
Cylinder: All the parts of the compressor are mounted inside the cylinder. The compressor's discharge line and suction line are also connected to the piston inside the cylinder.
How many types of compressors are there?
By the way, there are many types of compressors, and all of them are used in different places according to the need. But today I will tell you about the most used compressor types.
- Air Compressor
- Centrifugal Compressor( Centrifugal Compressor)
- Axial Compressor
- Rotary Compressor
Air Compressor: It is mainly used to fill the air in the tires of the vehicle. Air compressors are often found at puncture shops. With this, we can fill the air with football, basketball, volleyball, and handball, etc.
Centrifugal Compressor: It is used in those places. Where Pipeline Boosters are installed. It is used to lift more high gas. Where there is high volume and low compression, it is used there. Centrifugal Compressor compresses the air with the help of centrifugal force. It is used to convert low-pressure air into high-pressure air.
Axial Compressor: Its job is to make high-pressure air by compressing the air. There are three parts in this compressor, rotor, stator, and diffuser. This compressor converts the kinetic energy of air into pressure. Because of this, we get high-pressure air. Kinetic energy is produced in the air due to the rotor. The stator converts this into static pressure. The design of this compressor is like a diffuser. For this reason, it releases high-pressure air.
Rotary Screw Compressor (Rotary Screw Compressor): This compressor is a positive displacement compressor. It gives us by releasing air of constant pressure. Its suction line is big. It narrows as it discharges.
The design of this compressor is like a screw, hence it is called Rotary Screw Compressor. This is a safe compressor. In this compressor, air enters with the help of a section line, then due to its screw design, it comes out by changing the constant air pressure. And we get high-pressure compressed air.
